Dr. Marek Belka

Prof. Marek Belka is the current Director of the International
Monetary Fundís European Department. He studied at the Economics
Department at the University of Lodz,

where he became Professor of Economics in 1994. He was Polandís Deputy
Prime Minister in 1997 and Minister of Finance from 2001 to 2002.

From 2004 to 2005 he was the Prime Minister of Poland. He served as
Under-Secretary General at the United Nations and Executive Secretary of
the

United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (2006-2008). Dr. Belka has
authored several books and many articles dealing with socio-economic
issues.
