Martha Golubiec (1939 – 2021)

On January 22, 2021, we lost our beloved friend Martha Golubiec. Martha has been not only a friend to many of us, but also a pillar of our Polish community.  She promoted Polish history, culture, language, and traditions, contributing greatly to the Pacific Northwest’s ethnic landscape.   Among countless achievements, Martha was a co-founder of the UW Polish Studies Endowment Committee, she co-chaired the Committee with Tom Podl (RIP) for two years, and later, she continued to serve the Committee with great dedication until her final days.  Martha’s commitment to the cause was immeasurable. She would not only bring brilliant ideas, but also used her broad connections to invite famous speakers, and even gave a few lectures herself. Martha hosted students and Fulbright scholars, helped in organizing events, and along with her husband Ron, generously supported our endeavors financially. Martha and Ron hosted many memorable holiday parties and receptions with our guest speakers. Martha was always ready to bring new concepts and ideas to broaden our organization’s activities and visibility, she personified our mission of Bridging Cultures through Education.

We are sending our deepest sympathy to Ron and Martha’s Family. Martha was admired, respected, and loved by all of us.  She will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life will take place when gathering restrictions will be lifted by the state. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Seattle Polish Foundation via the link below and the Foundation will grant the donations to her favorite causes: seattlepolishfoundation.org
