How to Become an ACCESS Student

This program is for those of age 60 and over.  The cost is minimal: $5.00 plus a prorated technology fee.  ACCESS students are regarded as auditors and are not expected to do any class work, participate in discussions, or take examinations.  Students should attend class from the start of the quarter but are only able to register on the third day, provided that there is space available.

How to Become a UW EXTENSION Student

The forms required for registering as an Extension student are available from http://www.outreach.washington.edu/nondegree/register/,  which also has links to additional information about finding courses and fees. Extension students receive actual credit, which can be applied toward a degree. Most of the Slavic Department's courses are 5-credit classes, and the cost for a 5-credit course for 2006-07 (including the initial $35 registration fee) currently stands at $1056. Students should print out the Registration Form and the Registration Approval Form (which requires the signatures of the instructor and the Chair of the department). These should be submitted as soon as possible, since students are placed on a waiting list at the Extension. It is possible to wait to submit the forms at the very beginning of the quarter, but students will incur a $25 late fee.
Like Access students, Extension students should attend classes from day one but will not actually be registered for a course until the third day of the quarter, provided that there is space available. Sometimes, if a class fills up but the classroom itself can accommodate more students, it is possible to get an entry code permitting registration over the class limit.
