Agata Zubel

Agata Zubel, a Polish composer and singer, has been hailed by The New York Times as an important new voice in contemporary music. The artist’s talk will be dedicated to her own compositions with a focus on their vocal aspects. On October 28, 2016, Ms. Zubel will perform her composition Chapter 13 at the Benaroya Hall and her orchestral work recently commissioned by the Seattle Symphony be performed on October 27 and 29, 2016.

Agata Zubel has given many concerts in Europe and the US, working together with famous modern music ensembles including London Sinfonietta, Eighth Blackbird Ensemble, San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, and Seattle Chamber Players. Ms. Zubel won several competitions in the fields of voice and composition. Her piece Not I recorded with Klangforum Wien was given the highest grade during 60th UNESCO International Rostrum of Composers. Agata Zubel’s commissioned works include: String Quartet No.1 (Ultraschall Festival in Berlin 2007), Cascando (Central European Music Festival in Seattle 2007), Shades of Ice (London Sinfonietta 2011), Labyrinth (Polish Institute in Tel Aviv 2012), What is the Word (Klangforum Wien 2012), IN (Hannoversche Gesellschaft für Neue Musik for Staatsoper Hannover 2013), Chapter 13 (Los Angeles Philharmonic 2016). Her discography contains more than a dozen albums.
